A sophisticated Latin title for a sophisticated album, with a mixture of my Grammar School Latin and good old ‘google’, it roughly translates to “Moon of Going Insane”, but no doubt the band will explain in due time.
Opening track “When The Moving Finger Writes” is a solid, Geof Whitely Project track, keys and guitars build into the melody. The lyrics are of contradictions and lead to a slightly ‘darker’ feel to the music. As always there is a delicate ear worm wonderfully blended into the song.
“Secret Messages” crackles into life, maybe the slightest hint of a certain band right at the beginning, but this is quickly dispelled and the song settles down into the type of melodic, layered tune that we have come to expect from Geof Whitely Project.
“Digital Dream” is a personal favourite, expanding from a wailing siren into a multi-faceted tune with hidden depths and surprises. “Outside the Line” has commercial potential without ever losing the trademark Geof Whitely Project sound and feel, is this another step forward in the evolution of this band?
“Frozen Innocence” has a disturbing beginning with the siren blasting out over a ‘lost’ news report, replaced by the dreaded 4-minute warning. A dark track if ever there was one but holding to the musical values of GWP.
I told myself that I wasn’t going to do a ‘track by track’ review, it gives too much room for disagreement for the listener. So, I’ll just say that “Awaken”, “Necromancer”, “Not Enough Time”, all have the expected GWP ingredients. “Don’t make waves” and “Dream Theatre”, continue in the same vein.
So why is this album any different from previous GWP releases? Well in essence it isn’t it has the right formula, but, it is different, the sounds are more ‘in depth’, there are more changes and mood swings, but the music never becomes frantic or ‘cluttered’, the emphasis is on melody and good composition, drawing the listener in and ensuring that you always want to move to the next track. Good balance between keys and guitars, but it is the subtle moments and, often unexpected, ‘effects’ that add something else to this release.
Yes, the changes may be subtle to the GWP veteran, but for a first-time listener to the band, this should be engaging and heighten an appetite to explore more of the band’s music.
A great release and another step forward in the evolution of this band, but you really need to listen for yourselves and draw your own conclusions. You will not be disappointed.

Right off the bat, clear and clean complexity comes to mind with this release. Undeniably progressive rock, compiled by several multi-instrumentalists with thoughtful lyrics, sure to please discriminating fans of this genre. Every piece is executed masterfully, including a 20-minute epic that keeps one engaged from start to finish, which is no mean feat.
