This flight of fancy brings you down crest of a wave you very rarely find through the turbulence of life look for the answer but never get it right This flight of fancy brings you down crest of a wave you very rarely find through the turbulence of life look for the answer but never get it right And never make peace with the lion unless hes lying down Now the days are not so easy to get by crest of a wave you very rarely find through the turbulence of life look for the answer but never get it right Because whatever i receive is just to much to much for me to keep through the turbulence of life look for the answer but never get it right And never make peace with the lion unless hes lying down Its just the spirit of a fool Its just the spirit of a fool that brings you own Its just the spirit of a fool Its just the spirit of a fool that brings you own

about

Geof Whitely Project – Valley of Forboding”

Geof Whitely Project returns with another slice of dramatic, melodic, progressively influenced rock, worthy of a place in anybody’s collection.
Opener “Change in Fate” has a somewhat sinister yet melodic introduction, expanding into a guitar driven, dramatic opening segment, subtly settling back to a more gently flowing feel, which allows the vocal to take centre stage. The track weaves a tapestry of soundscapes as it develops, twists and musical turns without ever becoming too overstated. That is always the strength of GWP, melody with power.
“Broken Wheel” continues in the same vein, but again subtle differences in musical texture lift the tune above the usual. A style that could, possibly, bring early and more melodic moments, of Asia to mind. The full orchestral guitar sound at the opening is a great touch. This track and “Stranger of the Night” could have ‘single’ potential, if the music industry opened its ears!
From this reviewers’ perspective, I know what to expect from GWP, but with each album the overall sound develops, textures change and delivery is always absorbing and slightly different.
There are wonderful touches, the dark drone at the opening of “Delirium”, subtle time changes, catchy keys, soaring guitars add to the texture of the music throughout the album.
“Night Owl” has an ominously, ‘spooky’, opening but opens out into a driving guitar and weaves a tale that had this reviewer thinking.
Personal favourite is the closer, “Tower of Strength”, spoken word setting the mood of a slightly dark piece, but, once more keys and guitar lift the ‘doom’ and paint an aural picture that needs rapt attention.
As always GWP bring melody, power, rhythm, light and dark to the table. Time changes are subtle and are there to enhance rather than just for dramatic effect, they fit the musical narrative, they don’t just arrive from out of the either.
So, despite the ‘forboding’ title, the album is a charming, powerful, haunting and melodic slice of modern progressively influenced rock. Yes it does have darker moments, but they don’t dominate and depress the flow of the music. GWP don’t exactly throw away the rule book, but they do change the formula just enough to make the album stand out from the crowd. Great to have them back with an album that shows the continued development of the style of music that they provide.
